MISSION STATEMENT
My goal is to allow my art to flow from my heart and produce beautiful paintings, that make people stop, pause and escape for the moment.By challenging myself to develop a painting that speaks both to me and others, about the beauty that exists.
I hope that my art continues to evolve and people enjoy it and love it like I do.
Biography
Inspired by a lifelong fascination with botanical forms, Margot’s recent sensuous floral works mark a new style in her art. Mapped out on vast canvases her paintings are realistic, large scale compositions. She often paints single bold images, or close-up cropped compositions of contemporary arrangements of flowers. Central to each work, is the exploration of fine detail and elegance of floral forms and the beauty of nature.
Margot prefers to work from photographs of flowers from florists, markets or picked from gardens. This approach helps to create the magic of the moment – moments that may ordinarily be missed in our fast paced lives. By enlarging the composition, it changes the viewer’s perspective and invites wonder at the tiny, intricate details – opening the viewer eyes to things that previously may have gone unnoticed.
Margot is known for her bold, kaleidoscopic colour palette, which is also central to the success of her recent floral paintings. Her technique explores subtle colour variations created by light and shadow, to depict the feminine flowing movement of petals. Her floral subjects are often set against a dark background, which generates further contrast and mood in her works.
She has drawn inspiration from artists such as the old Dutch Still Life artists, Claude Monet, Van Gough and Georgia O’Keefe. To quote Monet – Colour is my day-long obsession, joy and torment.
Painted on deep gallery wrapped canvas with painted sides, with no frame required. They are also varnished for protection.

EARLIER WORKS
Margot Nattrass is a Western Australian artist, who comes from a family of creatives. Her Mother was a Silversmith and her Father a master timber craftsman, who carved beautiful furniture and built timber boats. Whilst she considers herself primarily self-taught, Margot has enjoyed expanding her artistic horizons and challenging her abilities by attending many courses and workshops.
For many years, Margot worked as a Decorative Artist and made a name for herself with her artistic flair expressed in murals, trompe l’oeil, faux marbling and painted furniture.
It was her training in a Master Art Class in India and as A Transpersonal Art Therapist, that influenced her decision to pursue her art in a more committed way.
As a mother of five children, her Just Women exhibition in 2004, was a tribute to the strength and nurturing nature of women.
Several years followed as she developed her skills, which were compatible with the immediacy of acrylics, resulting in a more abstract approach to her work. This was the basis of her next highly successful solo exhibition, The Audacity of Diversity. Margot’s work has been included in numerous group exhibitions and has had several successful solo shows.
